This course will attract social science graduates, development practitioners, civil society activists and others who have an interest in issues such as social justice, rights, equity and social exclusion and their effects on the health and wellbeing of people in developing countries.

The course will enable you to work effectively at a senior level to advocate for social justice for and promote the well-being of disadvantaged, excluded and vulnerable populations in a variety of contexts. Specifically, the course will give you the opportunity to:

undertake advanced study of social justice, development and health interactions, drawing on a range of related disciplines such as anthropology, health policy, management studies, psychology, public health and sociology;

engage in debates examining current and future trends affecting the health and social well-being of disadvantaged, excluded and vulnerable populations;

engage critically and reflexively in a range of social bodies as both professionals and citizens;

enhance their lifelong learning and personal development skills.

EXIT AWARDS: MSc(180 credits)

Delivery: Block attendance at QMU with online support. There may be some flexibility in delivery of some modules on the basis of demand.

Single Modules: Register as an associate student to study single modules in areas of interest

Duration: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2 - 5 years

Teaching, learning and assessment: Teaching is comprised of a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, case studies, simulation exercises and projects. Assessment is continuous and incorporates assignments, action plans, projects and research proposals.

Teaching hours and attendance: Each module which you study on campus will require you to attend classes and carry out independent work. Your attendance at QMU will depend on which module you are studying and whether you are studying full or part-time.

Standard - Honours degree or diploma, preferably in a health related or social science area. Diplomates should have completed the final exam of a professional body.

International: Where your Honours degree has not been studied in English, you will be required to take an IELTS test receiving an overall score of 6.0 and no individual component score below 5.5.

Home - full-time: £6510

Home - part-time: £660 per 15 credit module

Home - part-time, dissertation: £1310

International - full-time: £12920

International - part-time: £1180 per 15 credit module

International - part-time dissertation: £3490

International Health & Social Policy /Health- Related Research/ Social Development Policy and Practice/ Research Design and Planning// Social Justice All compulsory modules 15 credits each. Choose one module from: International Public Health/ or Health Systems (both 15 credits each) Plus 2 ELECTIVES (15 credits each) Dissertation (60 credits)

As a graduate you will be well equipped as an international health practitioner or as a senior health manager or policy maker in a developing country or one in economic transition. Graduates of the course have attained such positions as: health programme manager; project consultant; human resource manager; donor agency health advisor and a variety of advanced positions within home ministries and educational institutions.
